Financial Aid Specialist

Scott Community College is seeking a full-time Financial Aid Specialist. 

Under the direction of the SCC Campus Financial Aid Officer this position will be responsible for assisting the financial aid officer in all financial aid functions and will provide quality customer service to all internal and external customers.  Duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Provide a high level of front line and individual customer support to students and other internal and external customers in person, via phone, or virtually.
  • Must possess the ability to understand and interpret complex federal regulations regarding student eligibility for financial aid.
  • Must be able to use a variety of software products, analyze reports and navigate federal websites.
  • Assist students and families with FAFSA completion, answer general FAFSA questions and completion of required forms.
  • Prepare and deliver financial aid presentations both internally and externally.
  • Complete financial aid history/suspension appeal forms and notify students with incomplete forms.
  • Assist with processing student loans to include meeting with students to assist with student loan process.

Qualifications will include:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, Associate’s degree required and related work experience required.
  • Previous financial aid experience or similar work experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability to work with a diverse student and public population.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and accuracy, be able to meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must possess initiative, sound decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Must have demonstrated experience working with accounts and ledgers.
  • Successful candidate must possess exceptional communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work flexible work hours including some evenings and weekends. This may include working at other campus locations as needed.
