It’s no secret; the ability to read and write is a vital requirement to surviving
in today’s society. Without it, finding a job, filling out forms and even determining
which dressing room to use in a department store can be difficult, if not impossible.
The Adult Education programs at Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges all offer basic literacy training for adults, ages 16 and over.
Volunteer Tutors support our Literacy program by serving as tutors, providing one-on-one instruction in reading and writing in the English language.
Literacy volunteers do receive specialized training in helping adults learn how to read and have access to resource materials, as well as support and advice as they develop their skills as a literacy tutor.
