Admission Process

2. Student must meet with Denise Duran, prior to admission to the program. This process is necessary to inform the student(s) of the program requirements, course sequence, application for certification, and critical clinical/programmatic related information.
Health Requirements
Each allied health student must have an insurance plan to cover any injury or illness requiring hospital treatment or surgery. In addition, all students are required to submit evidence of good health through a physical examination and immunization form. Proof of successful completion of a course in CPR for health care providers through the American Heart Association is also required. These requirements will be due after the student starts the program. Please DO NOT begin this process until asked to. If anything listed above expires within the program you will need to repeat it at your own expense.
Criminal Background Check
Clinical sites require a criminal background check prior to allowing students into the clinical setting (Any associated fees will be the responsibility of the student). Certain criminal activity, as evident by a criminal background check may also disqualify a student from clinical participation. Please be aware that failure to participate in a clinical assignment based a criminal background check will result in dismissal from the Surgical Technology Program. These requirements will be due after the student starts the program. Please DO NOT begin this process until asked to. If anything listed above expires within the program you will need to repeat it at your own expense.
Transportation
Students must provide their own transportation to clinical sites. Applicants should be aware that travel in areas outside of the Quad Cities will be required for clinical placement. The out of town clinical sites include Clinton, IA, Geneseo, Ill, Muscatine, IA, and Iowa City, IA. These sites are in addition to the numerous sites we have locally.
PROGRESSION POLICY
Students admitted to Surgical Technology Program must achieve or have achieved a "C" in each course in the curriculum in the sequence described in the curriculum schedule in order to progress semester by semester
