Veterinary Technician Faculty

Dan Drahos, DVM


Dr. Dan Drahos received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1993 from Iowa State University.  The first seven years after graduating, he worked in mixed animal practices in Tipton and Eldridge, Iowa.  In 1999, while still working in Eldridge, Dr. Drahos founded the Animal Emergency Center of the Quad Cities, located in Bettendorf, Iowa, where he continues to serve as Chief Executive Officer.

In 2000, he moved to Muscatine and purchased Riverside Animal Hospital which he still owns and where he still works part-time performing small animal surgeries.   In 2010, Dr. Drahos joined Muscatine Community College as the full-time Resident Veterinarian for the Veterinary Technology Program.

In his spare time, Dr. Drahos enjoys cooking, barbecuing, racquet sports, and playing various musical instruments.

Lacey Slutts, DVM


Dr. Lacey Slutts graduated from Iowa State University focusing on small animal medicine. She also completed an internship in Exotic, Wildlife, and Zoo medicine at ISU. She has been involved in wildlife rehabilitation through a variety of organizations for about 15 years. In addition to learning new things, Dr. Lacey also enjoys spending time in nature with her family and crafting.

Michele Nigg, RVT


Michele graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 1996 with a A.A.S in Veterinary Technology. Over the years, she worked in private practice, academia, specialty referrals clinics and surgical centers including surgical nursing at Iowa State University Veterinary College of Veterinary Medicine. I have also worked with wildlife rehabbers treating injured birds of prey. My husband and I share our home with a dog named Shaw, several cats, rodents and 3 chickens.

Rebecca Taube, RVT


Becky graduated from Muscatine Community College in 2013 with her A.A.S in Veterinary Technology in 2013. She worked in private practice for 5 years as well providing lab assistance for the MCC program before joining as an adjunct in 2018. Becky enjoys her time gardening, crafting, and caring for her unique critters.
