The Clinton Community College Phi Theta Kappa honor society is again serving area veterans in 2023 by donating blankets and holiday cards to the Quad City Veteran Outreach Center. The annual holiday card project began in 2010 in response to the Alpha Theta Beta chapter president suggestion to send cards to her son’s military unit overseas. The PTK chapter has continued every year sending to those who have a connection to CCC or a CCC family member.
The CCC PTK Alpha Theta Beta chapter partnered with the CCC LEAD (Leaders Engagement, Advocacy and Development) class to collect dozens of blankets, many made by CCC students. The holiday cards were personally signed by many members of our community, including the ladies’ groups of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton and Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt.
CCC President Dr. Brian Kelly commented, “I'm proud of the students in the Clinton Community College Phi Theta Kappa honor society for recognizing the importance of our veterans and contributing their time and energy to make a difference. Thank you to the advisors and community partners that supported this effort.”
The Alpha Theta Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa has been recognized as a 5-Star chapter for their engagement on campus. In addition to the Cards for the Troops, the group is partnering the CCC Gaming Guild to host special gaming events to grow student engagement on campus. In recent years the chapter has created a Pollinator Garden at Clinton Community College and The Little Lending Library, a library on a cart that is movable to locations throughout campus. The chapter has also done research on stress and final exams, with the results being how the students react to that stress resulting in PTK members providing stress bags for students containing a brochure of stress relievers and some stress relieving items. These were distributed on the annual CCC De-Stress Day.
