Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) invites the public to a special event, An Evening with Elizabeth Maine, on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. in the Black Box Theater at Muscatine Community College, located at 152 Colorado St., Muscatine, IA. Elizabeth Maine, the current USA National Miss (UNM) Miss Iowa Teen 2024, will share her inspiring story of resilience, healing, and advocacy.
As a survivor of sexual abuse and exploitation, Maine is dedicated to supporting fellow survivors and raising awareness about the mental health challenges that can follow trauma. Currently a college student aspiring to become a victim’s advocate, Maine is passionate about dismantling stigma and fostering supportive environments for those impacted by similar experiences.
Event Highlights:
Elizabeth’s Story — Maine will share a powerful first-hand account of her journey, describing the resilience it took to rebuild after trauma and how she transformed her experiences into a purposeful advocacy mission.
Community Support Resources — Local organizations, including Family Resources of the Quad Cities, Muscatine Police Department (MPD), the University of Iowa's Rape Victim Advocacy Program (RVAP), Muscatine Center for Social Action (MCSA), and Trinity Muscatine Public Health (TMPH) will be on-site to provide information and connect attendees to valuable support services.
A Focus for Future Advocates & Caregivers — This event is especially relevant for high school students interested in criminal justice, nursing, social work, or psychology, providing valuable insights into trauma-informed care and advocacy.
This free event is open to the public and serves as an opportunity for community members, students, and local organizations to unite in support of mental health awareness and trauma recovery.
