Juggling college life?

Take a breath. EICC’s got you.

Let's get real: balancing classes, life, and your wallet is tough. That's exactly why thousands of college students across the country are turning to Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) to take control of their schedules, get ahead academically, and save serious cash along the way.

Picture this: you’re knocking out challenging classes from the comfort of your couch (hello, online courses), earning credits at a fraction of your usual tuition cost, and freeing up time to focus on your passions or even graduate early. Sound too good to be true? We promise, it’s not. Just ask Camron Pickard and Lauren Silvola, two college students who made the smart move to enroll as guest students at EICC.

Camron Pickard: Graduating Early, Debt-Free

Camron PickardPickard, a sophomore at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, majoring in Data Science and Statistics with a minor in Computer Programming, turned to EICC to tackle general education credits affordably and efficiently.

"I wanted to get my gen-eds done so I could graduate earlier and save some money," Pickard explained. "Taking classes at EICC helped me financially because it will allow me to graduate a semester early, saving a whole semester's worth of tuition and loans."

EICC’s online courses were exactly what he needed, offering flexibility to fit around his busy schedule.

"I could work or attend my regular classes and then complete assignments and watch lectures from my EICC classes anytime," Pickard said. "It fit perfectly into my life, especially with my athletics schedule."

Pickard enrolled in courses like Information Computing, World Regional Geography, Public Speaking, Introduction to Psychology, and Windows Workstation Operating System—all online.

"The process was simple," he noted, highlighting the ease of registration. "What stood out was how user-friendly everything was. The helpdesk was always available, which made solving any issues quick and easy."

Beyond the convenience, Pickard appreciated EICC’s engaging courses and supportive instructors.

"My psychology class was particularly interesting. We covered fascinating topics like how we develop fears and differences between male and female brains," he shared. "My public speaking instructor was also fantastic—she was clear, funny, and extremely helpful."

Would he recommend the EICC experience to others? Absolutely.

"EICC is great because of its flexibility and convenience," Pickard emphasized. "I would strongly recommend it, especially for high school students who want a head start on college."

Lauren Silvola: Finding Flexibility and Success Online

Lauren SilvolaSilvola graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in May 2024 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences and a concentration in Health and Aging. As she prepares to begin her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Northern Illinois University, Lauren credits her academic readiness to taking critical prerequisite courses at EICC.

"My local community college didn't offer online classes flexible enough for my summer work schedule," Silvola said. "Taking classes at EICC allowed me to really focus on challenging subjects and lighten my load during the fall and spring semesters at UIUC."

Silvola’s positive experience at EICC was about more than convenience—it was about genuinely effective learning.

"My online chemistry courses at EICC were much more interactive than other online classes I’ve taken," Silvola explained. “I ordered a lab kit and performed all the experiments at home on my own time. It was a great opportunity because I did not have to miss out on learning key skills."

Smaller class sizes made a noticeable difference in her learning experience.

"At EICC, my professors quickly answered questions, and I connected with classmates through discussions," she added. "It was great meeting people from diverse backgrounds, all working towards similar academic goals."

Silvola also shared how seamless transferring credits to UIUC was, alleviating one of the common worries guest students might have.

"Initially, I was hesitant about enrolling in an online course so far from my university," Silvola admitted. "But EICC genuinely cares about their students, even if you're only there for one class. Transferring credits was easy—I used ‘Transferology’ to ensure my classes would count."

Would she recommend EICC to other students? Without hesitation.

"Taking classes at MCC was one of the best decisions I’ve made," Silvola concluded. "I’d encourage anyone considering it to take that leap—it's worth it."

Why Choose EICC as a Guest Student?

Pickard and Silvola’s experiences highlight the practical benefits of enrolling as a guest student at EICC:

  • Affordable Tuition: Save significant money compared to traditional four-year college and university costs.
  • Flexibility: Online courses fit easily into busy schedules.
  • Supportive Environment: Smaller classes mean personalized attention and direct access to helpful instructors.
