Educators and coaches play a big role in the lives of youth, and you can, too. Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) is offering its Iowa Coaching Authorization course in May and Iowa Substitute Teacher Authorization course in July and August.
Coaching or substitute teaching is a great part-time job for parents, retirees, and anyone who wants to make a difference in the lives of students. Sign up now and you can be working on the field or in the classroom this fall.
EICC’s Coaching Authorization course is $490 and covers human growth and development, coaching theory and ethics, anatomy and physiology, prevention and care of injuries, and communication. The course combines in-person and online learning components and fulfills the state’s 55-hour workshop requirement.
The course starts May 20. Those who successfully complete it can apply for Coaching Authorization through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
EICC’s Substitute Teacher Authorization course is $100 and covers ethics, classroom management, diversity, and instructional strategies. It can be completed in two successive Saturday sessions:
To qualify for Iowa Substitute Teacher Authorization, you must be at least 20 years old, and hold an associate degree, or paraeducator certificate, or earned 60 credit hours from a regionally accredited institution.
After completing the course, you can apply to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for authorization to substitute in K-12 classrooms.
