Elena Brisch’s time at EICC wasn’t just about earning a degree early—it was about building the tools she needed for what comes next.
Now, at just 18-years-old, she graduated with an associate in arts degree before officially receiving her high school diploma and was featured as one of the May 2025 Commencement speakers. She reminded her peers of their strength and encouraged them to always keep moving forward.
That mindset carried her through a demanding two years as a triple-enrolled student—homeschooling, attending part-time classes at Clinton High School, and studying full-time at Clinton Community College (CCC). It wasn’t easy, but it taught Brisch how to manage time, communicate with professors, and take charge of her education.
“I had to learn how to study on my own, pace myself, and meet deadlines,” she said. “High school and college are so different. In college, there’s something due every week.”
Brisch credited her instructors for helping her stay focused and flexible, especially as she balanced coursework with band performances, music competitions, and serving as a student accompanist.
“I’d let them know what I had coming up, and they always worked with me,” she said. “They understood that I was serious about my work and that I’d always follow through.”
This fall, Brisch will transfer to the University of Iowa’s School of Music to pursue a double major in music education and performance. She’s earned a renewable $5,000 scholarship and has her sights set on eventually teaching music at the high school or college level.
“I’m coming into Iowa with almost two years of gen eds done. I’ve had experience working with professors, managing my schedule, even volunteering for events. I feel ready,” she said.
On the night of her graduation, Brisch said she knows how far she’s come—and how hard she’s worked to get here.
“I’m proud of myself,” she said. “A couple years ago, if you'd asked me, ‘Do you think you're going to be graduating from CCC before you graduate high school?’ I'd be like, ‘No, that's impossible.’ But I am.”
