Commitment to Access and Quality

Accessible digital content supports:

  • Student access to learning and services.
  • Clear and effective communication.
  • Usable and readable materials.
  • Consistent institutional practices.
  • Professional quality across all platforms.

Accessibility maintains high standards in how EICC communicates, teaches, and serves. All employees play a role in ensuring that digital content is clear, accessible, and usable for all members of the college community.

Understanding Accessibility Needs and Accommodations

Students and employees access digital content in many different ways. Some individuals use screen readers to navigate text and web content. Others rely on captions to understand video or audio materials. Some may use keyboard navigation rather than a mouse, adjust color contrast or text size for readability, or use assistive technology to support processing, attention, or mobility needs. Accessibility also supports individuals with temporary conditions such as injuries, as well as those accessing content on mobile devices or in varied environments.

Digital accessibility practices help ensure that all users can obtain information, engage with course materials, and participate fully in college activities. Common accessibility considerations include vision-related needs (such as screen reader compatibility and readable formatting), hearing-related needs (such as captions and transcripts), mobility and motor access (such as keyboard navigation), and cognitive or processing needs (such as clear structure and plain language).

To support understanding and practical application, short companion videos highlight common accessibility needs and demonstrate how accessible design supports all users. These videos are intended to build awareness and provide practical examples of how accessibility improves access to information and the overall college experience.
